Leadership Transition at Hilltop Children’s Center

Darline Guerrero Has Been Hired As Hilltop’s Next Executive Director

Seattle, WA – Oct 21st, 2019 Hilltop Children’s Center is a high-quality preschool, afterschool program, and professional development institute of early learning and inquiry serving the Seattle community since 1971. We have named Darline Guerrero (she/her) as our new Executive Director, joining the team on Friday, November 1st, 2019. Darline joins us after several years serving as Director of Operations at Launch (formerly known as CDSA) in Seattle, WA.

“With this hire, Hilltop is confident it has found an ED who is values-aligned with our mission and goals, while having the skills to ensure the sustainability and continued advancement of Hilltop as a leader in the ECE field.  Darline is well-grounded in ECE and committed to the learning modalities and social justice commitments of Hilltop.  It was clear through her hiring process that she possessed the highest balance of skills that all stakeholder groups sought, from advocacy and support for educators to responsible organizational leadership,” said Hilltop’s Interim Board President, Greg Bjarko.

“Both Darline’s vision to revolutionize the field and her relentless pursuit of more equitable educational outcomes for racially minoritized
individuals, make her an exceptional choice to lead Hilltop as we venture into a new phase of our mission,” added Michael Browne, Hilltop’s Community Engagement Manager.

Darline’s hire is the result of a robust process that included input from stakeholders ranging from Hilltop children to members of the Board. Working alongside all of you, the role of the ED will be to ensure Hilltop continues to Build on the Wonders of Childhood and create a more just and joyful world.

“I am so excited to introduce myself as the new Executive Director of Hilltop Children’s Center and Institute,” said Darline. “I am honored to have been selected to join the program, which is known far and wide for its dedication to excellence, but more importantly, to children. Over the past 20 years, I have worked as a teacher, administrator and college instructor, but I consider my most important job to be that of a child advocate. Over the years, I have learned that the most crucial part of education is understanding that every child and educator has their own unique story. A story that influences their experience in the classroom and in life.  I am so thankful to have the opportunity to bring all that I have experienced and learned over the years with me to this wonderful community.”

Our community is very excited to enter into its next chapter of learning, innovation, and growth.  Using the foundation of those here before us and those still part of our community, more great things are on with horizon with our new Executive Director’s opportunity to join the amazing work we do in our partnerships with children, families, educators and the greater ECE community!

As Hilltop enters 2020, it’s 49th year of existence, Darline will help transform early childhood education through play, collaboration, and reflection; in our classrooms with children, partnerships with families, and professional development with educators.
