Hi everyone, my name is Valerie and I was born and raised in Los Angeles in an immigrant Mexican family and my mother daily drilled it into our heads that education was our ticket to living a happy and successful life. Moms are always right! I am surrounded by educators including my sisters, cousins, high school and college friends. I have worked in public and private schools in Los Angeles and in Bremerton. Teaching is one of those professions that is rewarding beyond compensation and I look forward to each day as I know that I am going to be tickled by someone’s insight or funny joke. I earned a BA in Women Studies from UCLA and have my Washington State teaching certificate. Prior to joining Hilltop, I worked as a substitute teacher for the Bremerton School district. I am a lifelong learner and enjoy taking classes on Alison.com and YouTube. My passions include gardening, cooking, genealogy and traveling around the Pacific Northwest.
My name is Meghan Tsuji (she/her) and I recently graduated from SPU with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies with minors in Youth Ministry and Global Engagement! When I was 5, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes which made me first interested in children/childcare. If you or anyone you know has T1D, I’d be happy to talk about it and share my story!
