My name is Jacob Black, an early childhood and preschool educator. I always try to remember, every day, that the kids are teaching me just as I am teaching them. Being a teacher is a learning experience like no other, constantly working with kids and developing right alongside them. My tradition over the last few years from wishful high school teacher to a passionate early educator has been because of what my children have taught me. My entire career path and ideas have changed, and I couldn’t possibly be happier. It’s been an incredible journey and I’m excited to keep working in the field and with likeminded teachers. I feel strongly about this work and the preschool and kindergarten ages and am ready to hunker down and work with the kids in an environment of understanding and mutual guidance. I may be teaching the kids, but they’re also reaching out to me and teaching me how best to accommodate them and help them grow.
Hi Hilltop! I am originally from Chicago; I am excited to be exploring my new neighborhood in Seattle. I have spent the last few years working with children of all ages in recreation, education, fitness, and rehabilitation roles where I have seen first-hand how capable kids can be. I truly believe in the power of play, exploration, and creativity for young (and not so young) learners, and it is my goal to contribute to the developmental journey of Hilltop’s students. In my free time, I enjoy connecting with nature, exercising, reading, playing guitar, and drawing.
